meet jong
Jong’s Catchphrase: “Not my monkey, not my circus”
Jong Sang Rheu (they/them) is a non-binary singer, actor, musician and combatant artist in New York City. Originally from Busan, South Korea, as a first generation immigrant, Jong found a passion from story telling at a young age since immigrating in 2003. Described as a goofy, yet extremely professional and original artist, they strive for excellence in a performance space.
Before diving into theatre at the late age of 16 in High School, Jong was an athlete, pursuing a career in Competetive Swimming. While growing up, they were a part of Buffalo’s Competitive Swimming Team, even breaking HS division records for freestyle, as well as playing in the school’s lacrosse, and soccer team. After getting hit by a car their Junior year on a bike, to pass time while healing, they decided to try their fate in the ✨theatre arts✨ department. Evidentially, Jong fell in love. Since then, they’ve stopped at nothing to be a part of any and every space involving storytelling.
Without proper training or the funds to participate in lessons, they learned by following youtube channel tutorial guides in finding pitch, singing, acting, dancing and etc. After being recognized, Jong went to pursue theatre at SUNY Fredonia with a full scholarship, then later graduating Summa Cum Laude with a BFA in Musical Theatre.
Afterwards, Jong was seen in various Regional Theatres breaking racial stereotypes in “traditional” roles as well as performing in countless world premiere of productions. They then happily signed with FSE: FireStarter Entertainment and joining AEA in 2023.
In addition to theatre, Jong works freelance in Graphic Design, creating posters from professional productions to student project as well as marketing on social media for various companies and accounts.
They can be seen now in Astoria, Queens with their newly wed HUSBAND and their beautiful Siameses Cat son, Jasper Star, strolling along the concrete jungle where dreams are made of.
